Seven Days Project

During the summer of the 2020 Pandemic, the Photo SIG met online as a chat group three times a week to share images and to experiment with post processing.  The informal chats often wandered into a wide variety of topics.

One week, we decided, as a group, to see what we could do taking only one 'intentional' image each day for the week. An INTENTIONAL PHOTO is a photo that you decide will be your photo for the day BEFORE you press the shutter release. It may be edited, but it is your one intentional photo for the day. The goal is to THINK about your image BEFORE you take it.

This project was inspired by a project by photographer Jim Brandenburg where he took one intentional image every day for 90 days. The results were published in a book and in National Geographic Magazine. You can see (and purchase) the images online at the PHOTOby website. There is also a documentary VIDEO about the project on Youtube.

We learned a lot during the week.

One of the first lessons was that the challenge added a lot of stress to our lives. Looking for that ONE great image, with a deadline, was not as easy as it sounded. There was always that hesitancy before pressing the shutter where one would stress about whether or not this was the right image.

The second lesson was that the intentional image was often not our best image of the day. Nevertheless, the intentional images tended to be one of the best images taken each day... mostly!

We have been continuing the challenge!

So, here are the results of our labors. We hope that you enjoy them!
